Ursuline College junior forward Vanessa Consiglio (Milton, Ontario, Canada/Bishop Reding High School) has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week after helping the Arrows jump out to a 2-0 start in conference play.
This is the first time that Consiglio, a 2013 all-region performer, has earned the G-MAC’s weekly award. She is the second consecutive Arrow to earn the honor after senior Paige Rowan was the recipient on September 15th.
Over the last week, the Arrows secured a pair of G-MAC wins to improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Ursuline blanked Kentucky Wesleyan College, 2-0, on Thursday (Sep. 18) and then knocked off Trevecca University, 4-1, on Saturday (Sep. 20). During UC’s four-match winning streak, the Bishop Reding High School graduate has tallied nine points.
In the first match of conference play against KWC, Consiglio broke a scoreless tie in the 73rd minute and scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 2-0 victory.
On Saturday, Consiglio assisted on the game’s first goal, a cross into the box which Rowan put past the goalkeeper. Later, Consiglio capped the scoring with the club’s fourth goal off a pass from sophomore Cassie Cripe who also scored two goals and added an assist during the week.
Consiglio is second on the team with four goals and 12 points, but leads the Arrows with four assists. Her rankings are very similar among the conference leaders as she is second in goals, assists and points.
The Arrows are in action twice this week, starting with Tiffin University on Wednesday (Sep. 24). On Saturday, Cedarville University comes to Pepper Pike for a pivotal G-MAC match that begins at 1:00 p.m.
