Ursuline College well-represented in national statistical rankings

 The NCAA released its national statistical rankings for fall sports on Monday night and Ursuline College was well-represented.

After the soccer’s team recent four-match winning streak, during which the Arrows outscored their opponents 23-0, senior forward Paige Rowan leads all of Division II with 15 goals scored. North Alabama’s Chloe Richards is right behind her with 14.

Ursuline College’s Vanessa Consiglio Named G-MAC Women’s Athlete of the Week

Ursuline College junior forward Vanessa Consiglio (Milton, Ontario, Canada/Bishop Reding High School) has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week after helping the Arrows jump out to a 2-0 start in conference play.

This is the first time that Consiglio, a 2013 all-region performer, has earned the G-MAC’s weekly award. She is the second consecutive Arrow to earn the honor after senior Paige Rowan was the recipient on September 15th.

Ursuline College’s Paige Rowan Named G-MAC Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week

Ursuline College senior forward Paige Rowan (Concord Township, Ohio/Lake Catholic) has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week after scoring three goals to help the Arrows go two-for-two in non-conference games last week. This is the fourth time in her career that she has earned the weekly award.

UC earned wins over West Liberty (Mountain East) and Walsh (GLIAC) to run its record to 3-1 on the young year.

Just one year ago today, we were preparing for a long-awaited groundbreaking for the Center for the Creative and Healing Arts & Sciences.  All seemed to be right with the Ursuline College world:  funds had been raised, building designed, and our campus immersed in joyful anticipation of the coming school year.

Mother Nature had other plans. July 20, 2013 will live forever in the memory of those associated with Ursuline College.  Early that morning, in the blink of an eye, a tornado swept through our beautiful, tranquil campus and tore a hole in our heart.

Maddy Outman Promoted to Co-Head Track Coach at Ursuline College

Madeleine (Maddy) Outman has been promoted to co-head track and field coach, Ursuline College Athletic Director Cindy McKnight announced Wednesday (May 28) morning. Outman has worked with the cross country and track and field programs at UC since August of 2012.

Head cross country coach Ralph White will serve as the co-head track and field coach.

Over the past two school years Outman, a USATF Level One certified coach, has helped develop numerous Arrow runners and her hard work culminated in the outdoor track and field team capturing the first Great Midwest Athletic Conference title in school history in April. She helped sophomores Nicole Burlinson and Bea Indurain earn conference Track Athlete of the Year and Field Athlete of the Year honors, respectively.

All-American Burlinson Places Third at NCAA Championships

Ursuline College sophomore Nicole Burlinson placed third in the country with a time of 2:08.64 in the 800 meter run at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships on Saturday (May 24) night. By virtue of placing in the top-eight, she earned All-American distinction. Back in March, she earned All-American status for her efforts during the indoor season.

“Nicole loves competition,” coach Ralph White said. “A lot of kids freak out and get nervous, but she thrives when the spotlight is on. Our kids are very, very good about stepping up. They rise to the occasion – the bigger the meet, the better they do.”

Natalie Huggins Named G-MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year

The Great Midwest Athletic Conference athletic calendar year has come to a close with the completion of the 2014 Baseball Championships this past weekend at Prasco Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. With the recent announcement of Cedarville University securing the Presidents’ Cup, it is time for the G-MAC to announce its end of the year honors, starting with the 2013-14 Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Natalie Huggins was a four-year starter for the Arrow’s softball team, shared team MVP honors as a sophomore and again as a junior (note: this seasons team awards have not been announced).

Four Softball Players Honored by the Great Midwest Athletic Conference

Four members of the Ursuline College softball program were honored by the Great Midwest Athletic Conference on Thursday (May 1) evening. Junior outfielder Sam Roberts was named to the all-conference second team while sophomore Alison Porter joined freshmen Brittany Humbel and Dagmar Smith on the honorable mention list.

Roberts is the first Arrow softball player to earn all-conference honors. She hit .358 (39-109) and led the team with 18 runs scored and 48 total bases. Roberts also drove in 12 runs, the third most on the team, and swiped two bases.

Track and Field Program Wins First G-MAC Title in School History

In what was a complete team effort, the Ursuline College track and field program captured the first ever Great Midwest Athletic Conference title in school history on Saturday (April 19) afternoon.

The Arrows won the meet with 260.5 team points to finish directly ahead of host Cedarville University’s 238. Alderson Broaddus University took third with 89.5 to finish in front of fourth place Trevecca Nazarene University’s 82. Central State University (47) and Kentucky Wesleyan College (9) rounded out the six-team field.

Junior sprinter Keyana Roberts named ‘Conference Athlete of the Week’

Ursuline College junior sprinter Keyana Roberts has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday (April 8) afternoon.

She received the honor for her performance at the Bob Kahn Invitational, hosted last Saturday (April 5) by Oberlin College.
