Spreading cheer: Ursuline serves women and children at Domestic Violence & Child Advocacy Center holiday event

The Marketing Department represented the College last night at the Domestic Violence & Child Advocacy Center‘s annual Twinkle Shop, an event for families living at the agency’s shelter to shop for holiday gifts for one another, have a delicious meal and play like crazy. The Marketing gals took photos of each family with Santa and ran a craft table. Moms and their children decorated frames to display their new photos!

Thanks for having us, DVCAC! For more information about the Center, visit dvcac.org.

Celebrate the Season: Ursuline Style

The countdown to Christmas is on! Check back every day as we reveal a treat to celebrate the season – Ursuline style.

Day 1: Hello December! It’s time to bring the Christmas decor out!
Day 2: How did your first day back on campus feel after the Thanksgiving extra-long weekend? This is how we felt this morning… clinomania (an excessive desire to stay in bed.)
Day 3: How does the song go? Someone one is waiting for you underneath the _________.
Day 4: Red is the new black. What represents Christmas more than red holly?
Day 5: What’s on your wish list this year?
Day 6: Cozy up beside a fireplace tonight with your loved ones.

Day 7: There’s nothing like family. This holiday season we are so thankful for our Ursuline family.
Day 8: Nostalgia. What’s your most memorable childhood Christmas moment or story?
Day 9: Give. Have you started your holiday shopping yet?
Day 10: Reflect. Take time this holiday season to reflect on the year behind you and look forward to more good times ahead.
Day 11: Balter: to dance artlessly, without particular grace or skill but always with enjoyment.
Day 12: What’s your favorite holiday beverage?
Day 13: Unconditional love, friendship and respect, always.
Day 14: Snow. We live in Cleveland. Snow’s a fact of life. Embrace it!
Day 15: Do you believe in magic?
Day 16: Laughter is the best medicine.
Day 17: Grab a book from the Ralph M. Besse Library and snuggle up with a cup of cider or hot cocoa tonight.
Day 18: The Spirit within me salutes the Spirit in you.
Day 19: When you’re in the thick of preparing for Christmas – shopping, planning, working – remember to treat yourself with a break every once and a while.
Day 20: Quaintrelle is a woman who emphasizes a life of passion expressed through personal style, leisurely pastimes, charm, and cultivation of life’s pleasures. Sounds like an Ursuline College woman.
Day 21: Play. Throw some snow around and bring out your toboggan.
Day 22: Create something new today.
Day 23: O Christmas Tree

Historical Non-Fiction: Veteran’s Day Documentaries

Veteran’s Day, celebrated every year on November 11, is an official US holiday honoring veterans of all wars, from the Civil War to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. To look further into the history of our country’s veterans, we are spotlighting some of the most popular and acclaimed war documentaries created, depicting a variety of eras and experiences.

The Civil War (1990 Mini-Series) A comprehensive survey of the American Civil War.

No Place on Earth (2012 Documentary) A cave exploration in Ukraine leads to the unearthing of a story of World War II survivors who once found shelter in the same cave.

Gettysburg (2011 Documentary) An examination of the Battle of Gettysberg on both the personal and strategic level.

Triumph of the Will (1935 Documentary) The infamous propaganda film of the 1934 Nazi Party rally in Nuremberg, Germany.

The Network (2013 Documentary) The Network is a documentary set behind the scenes at the largest television network in one of the most unstable and dangerous places on earth, Afghanistan.
