Ursuline College cross country/track and field coach Ralph White can be a very convincing person. On a recent trip to the NCAA Indoor National Championships with sophomore Nicole Burlinson, White talked a cleaning lady at a hotel into allowing Burlinson to use the pool so she could get loose between her running workouts.

Burlinson, White and assistant coach Maddy Outman were in Winston-Salem, N.C., for the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships in mid-March because from the moment Burlinson stepped foot on campus in August of 2012, White convinced her she could become an All-American.

Nicole Burlinson Named G-MAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

Ursuline College sophomore Nicole Burlinson has been named the first-ever Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday (Dec. 10) morning.

She was the only Arrow to compete at Friday (Dec. 6) night’s Youngstown State University Icebreaker Meet and she shattered school records in both of her events, the 1,000 meter run and the mile.

Burlinson ran a 3:03.98 in the 1,000 to top the school record of 3:13.81 that was set by Jennette Goans in 2009. The only runner to beat Burlinson was UC assistant coach Maddy Outman (3:01.68) who was running unattached. The next closest student-athlete finished in 3:18.78.

In the mile, Burlinson ran a 5:15.59 to win the race and break her own school record, a 5:29.75 that was achieved at the same meet last year. The second finisher, Janine Powis of Slippery Rock University, finished in 5:20.29.

She now holds the indoor school records in the 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 800, 1,000 and the mile.
